There is no shortcut to anywhere worth going. SEO takes time, whether you dedicate an hour a day, a week or a month, if you put in the time, I pinky promise you will see your rank on google improve.

First, you need to invest in a reputable website.

Facebook Business pages are not enough if you want your ideal clients to find you. Where do you go when you need to find something? Exactly, and so does everyone else. Make sure your website is optimized for modern SEO. A lot of people use Wordpress, but if you are just starting out there are better options. I use Squarespace and can not say enough good things about it, Squarespace also hosts my site. Other favorites are Wix and Showit. They are all optimized for mobile which is where 60 percent of web traffic travels.

I have a website, what can I do to boost my SEO?

Rename all the images on your website, Yep... every. single. one.

Google web crawlers weigh images heavily, but only if they’re descriptive. Once I am finished editing a session I export 2 sets of images. The first being the images that will go to the client, the other is the best ones that will be blogged, could go on my website, or the internet. I rename them and incorporate my keywords, usually something like this... 'Baltimore-Maryland-Lifestyle-Photographer-Breanna-Kuhlmann'. You want about 3-6 keywords including your name, or business name, and use a - to separate the words.

Every single image is renamed before going on my website, the internet or a blog post.

Pro Tip: Use only web-sized images on your websiteDo not put a bunch of High resolution files on your website! It will make your site run slow, which means google can't crawl it as fast.

Another Pro Tip coming in hot: If you have a lot of images to rename, you can use a website like BlogStomp to rename them in bulk.

Blogging is important, but think quality over quantity.

One of my first year business goals was to blog once a week, let's just say I was basically setting myself up for failure. I am a busy mom of 2, and in order to blog every week that meant I had to blog every session, and realistically I don't have time for that. What I did do was prepare sessions to be blogged by exporting only the best images and renaming them. So they are all ready to go when I am.

Be consistent with your content.

As stated above, blogging is important, but so is being consistent with your content. You only want to publish content that will still be relevant in the future. Google wants to recognize sites that they trust and provide valuable information to what people are searching for. An easy way to do this is when you are working on a blog post, make sure you use keywords that not only match and relate to your post title, but that you are incorporating them throughout the entire post.

Speed up your website.

I mentioned above about only using web-sized images. Google does not like slow websites. It is searching for sites that are fast, functional and relevant. If you are a photographer like me, your website is packed full of images. It is crucial for SEO that your website passes the google speed test. Test your sites performance here

Give it time.

SEO takes months, sometimes years to build. There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going. I promise if you start implementing these tips into your website, you will see organic growth and results.
